Funny Car Fever
April 15-16, 2011
Sacramento Raceway Park
Well another busy weekend in the Green Motorsports venue.
We had 2 races scheduled for the same weekend. The funny car was scheduled at Sacramento Raceway for the annual “Funny Car Fever”. We couldn’t miss this race as we are the defending champions winning this event last year. But we also had a race scheduled in the mini sprint for Marysville Raceway Park. Cory decided to ask Rick Holbrook a friend who is building a new car and not busy on Saturday to drive his mini sprint for him. Rick did a great job and was leading the main event until the throttle cable stuck open going into the turn and spun the 53c. Rick now starting in the back worked his way back up to 7th place and did a great job for us. Thanks Rick! Also special thanks to Rick Soto for towing our mini in his trailer to get it to the event. It took some planning but with the help of both Rick’s it worked out. Thanks Rick!
With the mini sprint taken care we headed to Sac Raceway for the Funny Car Fever 2 day show. Friday the guys decided to test n tune “Battle Born” since this was the first time out this season for the car at the track. The track also wanted us to run on a 7.0 second index for the weekend so we needed to work on getting the times down.
Testing brought some great runs, 6.86 at 197 mph. Since we were on a 7.0 index they made some changes to the car to slow it down a bit. Second test pass 6.95.
At 5:00 pm the first round of qualifying took place and Cory ran a 7.04 a nearly perfect run and we left the track for the evening with that good day of testing and qualifying on our minds. As we returned to the track early Saturday to continue the event we were all hoping for a great day but had no idea it was gonna be awesome!
Second round of qualifying Cory ran a 7.07 and clinched the #1 Qualifier title assuring himself lane choice for eliminations.
Shortly before eliminations were to begin the track manager came to us and said that due to low car counts at the event brought on by the slow economy they wanted to give the fans a show to enjoy and asked it we would throw out the index and run an all out show! Instead of eliminations all cars run 2 rounds. No round winners no losers but at the end of the night the fastest car gets the win and to claim bragging rights for the weekend and fans love to see 6 second Funny Cars!
So they guys went back to work to put the fast tune up back into “Battle Born” and the racing began.
Round 1 of racing Cory dominated the competition not only with his very quick 6.92 second pass at 194 mph but his .02 reaction time left the opponent sleeping at the starting line. First round win and was the only funny car to run in the 6’s for that round.
As the sun was setting the final round of racing was upon us and we all crowded the track to watch the final pass. Once again Cory had an awesome .018 reaction time and a dominate pass of 6.93 at 194 mph to his opposing 7.68 and 172 mph.
Although this was more of a spectator event than a race because there were no eliminations we were the best car of the night, winning each of our rounds and running the fastest ET's of the event. So we will add this in the win column for the SAG Team.
Awesome job Cory, as your reaction times and exceptional driving made it look easy. Great kudos to the entire SAG Racing team and they worked hard and long to ensure that the car was just right for the rounds. Special thanks to Don, Harry and Randy! And thanks to our friends and family who also came out to support us at the races this weekend. We truly appreciate your being there.

CONGRATULATIONS TEAM!
