Sacramento Raceway This was the last race for the Lil Dragster this season. Sacramento Raceway was hosting the National Dragster Challenge on this beautiful 85 degree Sunday in late October. First round of qualifying the car ran it usually 9.09 on the first pass. Second round the car sputtered and popped from about mid track to the end and ran only a 9.36. We knew something was wrong just Now it is time for eliminations and we decide to dial Randy in at a 9.03. Since we never really got a good qualifying pass in we were crossing our fingers but the Lil Dragster spun the tires hard off the starting line and only managed a 9.10 out of the pass giving our opponent the win. A disappointment as this was the 1st time this year that we have gone out in the first round at Sacramento Raceway. So next season starts on January 1, 2012 and who knows what adventures and accomplishments next year will bring….we hope it will be our first win in the Lil Dragster! The alarm clocks went off at 4:30 am this morning as Green Motorsports awoke to a new adventure for Randy in the dragster. He has wanted to race at the famed Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA for a while and we decided what better weekend than the 4th of July to give it a try. Little did we know when we planned this race several weeks ago that today would have record setting temperatures in the wine country. We arrived at the track right around 8 am and it was already hot and radiating the heat off the pavement surrounding this huge facility. It is a beautiful track and has awesome facilities so we were excited to be there. Cory took a tour of the track on the quad to find out where we were supposed to be and get a lay of the land. Both he and Randy have attended races at this track as spectators but never raced there. As we headed to the staging lanes for our first and only round of qualifying we realized just how many cars were there. Over 100 cars in Randy’s division alone and we were only one of 13 divisions racing today. Lots of cars! Finally first round of eliminations and we had to decide what to put on the dial in. Since the car had run a 9.20 in qualifying we decided to bump it up a bit to a 9.16 since it was now 20 degrees warmer we figured that is about all she could run in this heat…well we were wrong. That “lil” dragster launched hard of the line and took off. Randy passed his opponent at about the half way point and his opponent had a 2.54 second lead off the line. We knew it would be close as Randy also had a .02 reaction time. To close to tell from the starting line we waited for the lights at the finish. As the times came up Randy had run a 9.158 on a 9.16 dial in! Just 2 hundredths too fast! As we drove the end of the track to pick up the dragster we could tell that Randy thought he had won the round too. But we had to let him know it was just a “wee bit to fast”. He said he knew he was on a fast run and had actually lifted before the finish line but it wasn’t meant to be today. Randy had done a awesome job That’s just racing! Disappointment settled in as we packed up to head home. But after a good day of racing and at a very nice track I am sure we will be back to give ‘em hell next time! 1st Round Qualify
watching the pass. After getting the car back to the trailer Cory found that the crank trigger pickup sensor had broken a wire off. Well we don’t have a spare crank trigger pickup sensor in the trailer so Cory once again worked his magic and got out the soldering gun and fixed the sensor.
So as our year comes to a close for the little dragster we celebrate that this year we made
our 1st 8.90 pass, made it to the 3rd round twice and raced at the fame Infineon Raceway. Not a bad year at all.

(or as the guys say "It will always be Sears Point")

Just a "little" to fast!
On the qualifying pass with the very hot temperatures the “lil” dragster spun the tires hard off the line and ran a 9.20 and we returned to the trailer to wait for first round of eliminations. With 13 different divisions it takes a while between rounds so we tried to stay cool and relax. But with the temps climbing close to the100 degree mark it is hard to do either. (unless your Cory!)

8.98 win with .015 reaction time!
Saturday was cold and windy as we headed for the track. First time trials the car ran a 9.01. Not bad for a cold start. Second time trials ran an 8.98 now that’s better.

With 36 cars running in the Pro Division it was gonna take a lot of rounds to claim the win. Randy started off round 1 with 8.98 with a .015 reaction time and a win for the round. Well that put us off to a great start. Round 2 that Randy and that Lil Dragster just got faster with a 8.95 and another win. The field had now been eliminated down to 9 cars from 36 as we lined up for round 3 but it wasn’t meant to be as Randy turned the red light on and the opponent got the free pass. But it was a great day of racing and we loaded up and headed home for the evening.
Sunday the weather took a turn for the warm side. No more wind and temperatures reaching the low 80’s it felt pretty hot on that black pavement.
With only one round of time trials and 36 cars that showed up to race again today the car ran a 8.94 for the fastest time ever.
Round 1 found Randy in the win column as he defeated his opponent with a 9.00 and lifted at the end to not break out.
Round 2 as things were really heating up we lost to our opponent with a .005 margin.
Oh so close!
All in all it was a great weekend of racing! Randy had good reaction times and did great. Special thanks to Cory who crew chiefs that “Lil Dragster” for consistent runs all weekend in the 8.90’s. And also a special thanks to Brandi for showing up both days and being the team photographer.
Now to get things cleaned up, and change cars in the trailer to get ready for Cory to be in the mini-sprint next weekend in

March 13, 2011

Daylight savings time began today and so did a way to early start for the Green Motorsports team. Somehow waking at 6 am on a Sunday (actually 5 am regular time) just seems wrong. But Green Motorsports is happy to have their crew chief Cory back in town as we take the dragster to the track in
A cold and windy day with rain threatening we ran two qualifying passes. First qualifying pass was 9.14 and second pass better with a 9.03.
First round of eliminations we drew the bye run and ran a 9.16 to take the round.
Second round of eliminations Randy had the “red light monster” hit once again. We lost the round but ran a 9.04.
Just as we returned to the pits the rain started falling so the track was finished for the day anyway.
Now if we can get everything put away and warm back up…I will be ready for a nap.

February 13, 2011 Well we finally got the little dragster to the track for the 1st time this year. We knew it was cold outside when we had to scrape ice off of the windshields before we could leave for the track. After arriving we had all kinds of problems, generator wouldn’t start, dragster wouldn’t start! We had just started them the day before to test them so we knew that they were fine then. We kept trying the dragster to no avail and the battery was getting weak, but since we couldn’t get the generator started we had no way to charge it. We decided that everything was just to cold to start but we kept trying and eventually got the generator going then charged the battery on the dragster and got it started too! Finally! Racing through tech just in time for qualifying. First qualifying round went well the car ran 9.08 right out of the box. Relief settled on both of us as we made our way back to the trailer to prepare for round 2 of qualifying. With less than an hour between rounds we were busy getting ready when they called us to the lanes. Second round of qualifying the little dragster finally did it! Broke threw that 9 second barrier we had been trying to accomplish and ran a best ever 8.97! We were very excited and hurried to the pits to prepare for round one of eliminations. The win light flashed in Randy’s lane giving us a first round win with a 9.08. Round 2 of eliminations Randy did the burnout and then tried to put the car in reverse but to no avail. Ended up just forfeiting the round. After returning to the trailer found that the linkage bolt had come loose on the transmission. A disappointing end to a great day. All in all it turned out to be a great day of racing, the weather warmed into the mid 60’s and the car ran it’s best ever time so who’s complaining!
