2010 Dragster Results

June 26, 2010

Green Motorsports had a rebuild on the "lil dragster" before this race. New rods, bearings and a new polish on the crank.
This race offered 3 qualifying passes so it was good to try it out. For what ever reason the car doesn't like the first run of the day and was a little slow on the 1st pass with a 9.19 but by 2nd qualifying pass she was right back at 9.08. The heat was beginning to build on the track as 3rd round or qualifying came and she spun the tires a bit on the start and ran a 9.13. When first round of eliminations came we dialed in a 9.12 and the car ran a 9.13 only problem is Randy was too quick off the light and turned on the red light at the start. After the race the much younger driver from the other car came over to tell Randy good race and told him he needs to drink an AMP energy drink..as that what he does...hmmm
Maybe there is something to the young man's advice...Randy was drinking a Big Red. Makes you wonder!

Serious looks on my boys faces!

Well the day started out good...

Well the day started out good...

Green Motorsports coming off a high from last weekend's win headed once again to the track at Sacramento Raceway for the 2 day NHRA Pacific National Open with the "Little Dragster"
The weather was awesome and we were ready to put another win trophy in the case.
!st round of qualifying the car ran ok. 9.24 was a little slow for us but it was still cold. 2nd round of qualifying was much better with a 9.09 and back up to speed. As first round arrived we lined up in the staging lanes first ready to rock. The race manager told us that he had an uneven number of cars and we would get the bye for this round. Whoo Whoo! We will take it. As we pulled to the side and waited for each of the 36 other cars to take their run ours would be last.
When it was our turn Randy started the Lil' Dragster and did the burn out. All seemed great. As the tree went green Randy lauched the car and she took off well till about 3/4 track when she blew a large puff of white smoke just as she crossed the finish line.  The team on the starting line knew that wasn't a good sign. As we drove to the other end to retrieve the car we found that the parachute and the car were covered in oil.  Hmmm..where did all that oil come from?
We towed the car back to the trailer and the team frantically went to work on the car trying to find out the problem and get back before round 2. It appears that the oil filter had vibrated loose spilling most of the oil and with the car on a fast run ran out of oil before the end of the track causing some pretty major damage to the rods, bearings and crank. Disenchanted and tired after thrashing for almost 2 hours, we surrendered to the fact that we would not make it back for round 2 as we heard the announcer on the loud speaker announce that Randy Green in the "Lil Dragster" is unable to make it back. So the Lil’ Dragster has a rebuild in store before she can return to the track again and I have some spirits to try to lift from our team as we will once again rebuild and return in search of that ever illusive win!

Well we got off to a slow start this year with the dragster as the rebuild on the motor wasn't quite ready when the season began. Then we took it out to test n tune on February 13th before the next race and locked the motor up after the second pass.

Found out after the tear down that the crankshaft that we had just paid to have straightened wasn't quite straight! After completely tearing the motor down…again…this time Cory did the straightening himself, put in some new main bearings and put it all back together. Made it in time for the next race on March 14 and ran some quick times but went out in the first round with a little to quick on the light going red but at least she is back to running well again.

On March 28th we took her back to the track and once again ran some very quick times. In fact we went out first round because we dialed in a 9.13 and ran a too quick 9.124. Disappointed but hard to be upset because you’re too fast!

On April 18, 2010 we once again returned to Sacramento Raceway for the next in the Chassisworks ET Series. First qualifying was a 9.19, second qualifying was a 9.09. We dialed it in for the 1st round at a 9.05 and ran a 9.08 and got beat on a holeshot. Oh well there’s always the next race…and it is a two day event on May 1st and 2nd so we will have 2 shots to get it right. Come join us!
